New Patient Guide

Start with a free consultation at either ALVIS Chiropractic clinic. We will listen to your concerns, explain the next steps and help you prepare for an examination if appropriate. Treatment recommendations depend on your history, examination and goals; the free consultation does not mean free treatment.

Your first steps

  1. Book your free consultation

Choose Portland with Dr. Jerome Craig or Hood River with Dr. Andrew Alvis. Call or book online to discuss your concerns and whether an examination is appropriate.

    Choose your clinic
  2. Complete your online paperwork

Share your health history through our intake service before the visit when possible. If you need help with the paperwork, call the clinic.

    Open online paperwork
  3. Your first visit

The doctor reviews your history and performs a spinal and nervous-system examination as appropriate. X-rays may be recommended if needed; imaging arrangements will be discussed. A first treatment may be offered if clinically appropriate and with your consent.

  4. Report of findings and your care plan

The doctor explains the findings, your options and any need for referral or additional testing. Together, you can discuss a personalized plan, expected costs and how progress will be assessed.

  5. Regular visits and reassessment

Follow-up care is tailored to your needs. Let the doctor know about changes in your symptoms, medications or health. Your plan can change as your response and goals are reassessed.

What to bring

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card and any claim information
  • Current medication and supplement list
  • Prior imaging and relevant medical reports, if available

How long it takes

First visits generally involve more discussion and assessment than follow-up visits. We have not published a fixed appointment length: please ask your chosen clinic how much time to allow when booking. Completing paperwork ahead of time may help; your visit length depends on your needs and any recommended examination.

Before your first visit

Do I need a referral?

Most of the time, no. Most patients can book directly with ALVIS Chiropractic without a referral from another provider. Some insurance plans or claims have specific requirements, so check with your insurer and call your chosen clinic before booking if you are unsure. We can help you identify what to verify.

What should I wear and bring?

Wear comfortable clothing that lets you move easily. Bring a photo ID, your insurance card, a current medication list and any relevant prior imaging or medical reports. If your visit relates to an auto accident or work injury, bring available claim information. Call ahead if you need help obtaining records.

How long is the first visit?

Please ask your chosen clinic how much time to allow when scheduling; we do not publish a fixed first-visit length. A first appointment usually needs more discussion and assessment than a follow-up. Your health history, examination needs and questions affect timing. Completing the online paperwork in advance may help you prepare.

What is included in the free consultation?

The free consultation is a conversation about your concerns, history and goals, and whether further evaluation may be appropriate. It is not a promise of free examination, imaging or treatment. The doctor can explain possible next steps, and the office can discuss costs and coverage before you decide whether to proceed.

Will I need X-rays?

Not every patient needs X-rays. After reviewing your history and examining you, the doctor may recommend imaging if it would help guide appropriate care or evaluate a concern. The clinic will discuss imaging arrangements and costs when relevant. We do not imply that X-rays are performed on site at either location.
